Hey All,

Just wanted to get a read on driving an 914 EV in the rain. Two thirds of my CALB 180Ah cells are in the engine compartment on either side of the motor. I created racks that would allow me to keep the rain tray on the deck lid (an important feature in my estimation), but I am not certain the tray alone will be enough to keep substantial moisture from dripping and accumulating in the recessed topsides of the lithium cells. If enough water could pool, the terminals on a cell would short. Not good.

Does anybody have experience with exposing their 914 to the elements, consequences, and/or preventative measures?

Thanks,
McB

That is what the battery box is for.  I have an angle iron frame that holds a polycarbonite box that houses the batteries.  This keeps the rain and road water from contacting the batteries.  Sure, most people want to see the batteries and I get asked a lot, but I just tell them they are inside the box.  That is as good as I can do.  I could probably build a clear lid, but nobody has been so insistent to have me open it.
