Twenty Years After 9/11, Terrorism Still on the Mind of North Jersey Residents

9/11 anniversary: 'I was burning alive' - Survivors of September 11 attacks describe how they ...

Flight 93 was aiming for the Capitol on 9/11 - The Washington Post

================================================================

Dear 9/11 Community,

You are most welcome to come to the sixth-annual Calling Of The Names Ceremony on September 11th, 2021, at 1:30 PM in St. Paul’s Chapel in lower Manhattan. The ceremony honors deceased 9/11 Rescue and Recovery Responders who came to help during the nine-month Rescue and Recovery Effort at the World Trade Center site following the attacks of September 11, 2001.  St. Paul’s is where George Washington worshipped after he was sworn in as the first President of the United States, and where 9/11 Responders could go anytime night or day for respite during the nine-month Rescue and Recovery Effort that followed the attacks.

Due to ongoing concerns about Covid 19, there will be limited access to the Chapel.  You can watch the ceremony live via a link on our website:  www.callingofthenames.org

As many of you know, the WTC site was considered this country’s most dangerous construction site ever. For nine months, Responders labored at their own peril. They put themselves in harm’s way to save survivors, restore safety and security to the complex and find as many remains as possible for the families of those lost. Their determination and dedication allowed many families to put their loved ones to rest.

The ceremony was created in 2016, as the 15th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks approached. Three volunteers from St. Paul's Chapel World Trade Center Relief Ministry wanted to honor the memories of those who served after the attacks and have since died. They created the first Calling Of The Names Ceremony, feeling it meaningful to hold the ceremony on the afternoon of the anniversary itself, and at historic St. Paul's Chapel, where many Responders sought respite while they labored at the site.   From the beginning two important aspects of the ceremony were determined:  that Responders would be called by their names and affiliations and that the reason for their death would not matter.  By calling their names we invoke their memory and call out gratitude for their service.

We hope you will join us, either in person or by watching the live broadcast from our website.  We wish everyone peace, comfort, and courage on this auspicious occasion.

• Over 1,200 names will be called; The only criteria: The deceased 9/11 Responder helped during the nine-month World Trade Center Rescue and Recovery Effort

• Sixth annual ceremony as the List of Names continues to grow

• Tax-deductible donations in support of the work to remember Responders can be made at: www.callingofthenames.org/donate
