Video: "They Win If We Quit” The Hardest Part Of Living After 9/11

In this powerful and emotional episode of Beyond the Shield, host Paul Conway sits down with Julie Henneberry, the daughter of an FDNY firefighter killed on 9/11, to continue a conversation that goes far beyond the day the towers fell. Julie opens up about growing up in the shadow of 9/11, the anger and bitterness that nearly destroyed parts of her life, and the long road toward healing that followed. She shares how horses became her lifeline after her father’s death, how grief reshaped her relationships, and why becoming a mother forced her to confront trauma she had buried for years. From survivor’s guilt and generational trauma to the responsibility of preserving history and telling the truth to the next generation, this conversation explores the ripple effects of 9/11 that still impact families decades later. This isn’t about politics or headlines. It’s about legacy, resilience, and choosing not to let hatred win. If you’ve ever wondered what happens after the ceremonies end and the cameras turn off, this episode will stay with you long after it ends.

15th Anniversary of Signing of Zadroga Act Into Law. Congress Needs to Act Again to Fully Fund the World Trade Center Health Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 2, 2026

Today is the anniversary of then President Barack Obama signing into law the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 which created the World Trade Center Health Program and reopened the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund.

This was the result of years of advocacy by the 9/11 community, responders, survivors and their advocates, who had to overcome years of resistance by the Federal government to responding to the health impact on thousands caused by the toxins at Ground Zero.

For too long the Federal government did not “Remember 9/11.” It had failed for years to respond to the increasing numbers who were sick and getting sicker who needed help.

The World Trade Center Health Program was finally created to provide medical monitoring and treatment.

The program is now serving over 140,000 responders and survivors, not just from New York but in every state and in 434 out of 435 Congressional districts, as the result of the effort of thousands in the 9/11 community who advocated for it and are still advocating for it today as we approach the 25th anniversary of the attack to make sure it is fully funded and can continue to provide care for those who need it.

Congress needs to pass the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act of 2025 (S.739/H.R.1410) to make sure that the program is fully funded and will not face impending cuts to access and services.

Please contact your Members of Congress and make sure that they are cosponsors of the legislation.

You can click here and find out if your Members of Congress are on the bill and if they are not, we can connect you to them so you can urge them to join.

You can view this release on our website here.
