How can teachers use the personal stories of
9/11 to foster empathy and help students understand the impact of
9/11 on their lives?
Participants
will:
Explore key topics related to
the events of 9/11 and its aftermath.
Learn from teachers who have
connected 9/11 to different subject areas in the
curriculum.
Interact with artifacts and
first-person history at the Tribute WTC Visitor Center.
Examine resources and methods
from Facing History and Ourselves for teaching this contemporary
history, including issues such as civil liberties, national
loyalty, and religious identity in the wake of violence.
Experience a guided visit of the
9/11 Memorial and discuss how to contextualize the 9/11 Memorial
for your students.
Develop a project that will
allow students to become the transmitters of this history in their
school community and act as agents of change.
