Hello All,

Schleich just released their list of new products for 2011. Not much
in way of medievals (disappointing), however one ray of sunshine is
their Battle Elephant:

Looks like a MASSIVE Asian elephant adorned with battle spikes on his
legs, tusks, and head. Astride this mighty beast is a driver with
spike. I'm excited cause this guy will fit in quite well with my
Schleich Arabians. But, the best news is that a separate attachment
will be released. Basically its the howdah with two additional
warriors, one with a short bow and another with a spear:

The rest of their "Heroes" set consists of a Ninja, Spartan, Roman,
African spearman, and a Northman. Perhaps the Northman can be of use
in a Scots army, and perhaps the African can accompany the elephant?
Like I said.....slim pickings, unless you're looking for ancients or
Samurai.

The remainder of Schleich's 2011 catalog looks lacking for us also.
Nothing of use in the Farm section. I'm still hoping to one day get
something close enough to use as peasant rabble, but not this year.
Additionally the Elven/Fairie line is looking too juvenile. My group
does some logic-based adult fantasy, i.e. shape-changers, etc., but
this line doesn't quite fit in.

I'm looking forward to Papo's releases for 2011. But, more so, I'm
looking to add a war elephant or two to the mix!

The oliphant looks good. The howda looks far too fantasyish for my
tastes. And what is with Schleich's sculptors lately? They can't model
a drawn bow for crap. The first figure that I noticed this on was the
Fleur de lis and Lion mounted longbowman; the bow limbs are in the
static position. Even as small as the howda crew archer pic is, it is
obvious that the bow string is longer than the danged bow!
Contemptible!

Thanks for the news, though. Maybe later in the year they will
announce/release more medievals; but I'm not holding my breath....
