There are three versions of this song that I wish to mash up. I've been thinking about it for a while and I think playing with the 6/4 time signature and mixing it in with 4/4 will be an interesting curveball for both the audience and 8bar. I'm thinking 2 soloists, and we could do it one of two ways. We could start with the more subtle original song and move into the more obviously sexual Frank Ocean version, or we can do it the other way and get a huge reaction when we get to the verse people know more. I'm personally partial to the second one for sound purposes, but the first one makes more sense thematically. Also, another plus to this song is the two solos. One would be baritone and one would be high tenor. I'm thinking I'd have to transpose down though, because MGMT sings incredibly high on this song.
As far as the way we would mash them up, I was thinking this:
>Opening from the Justice remix with the hook, but only tenors singing, not the solo or baritone/bass because Justice threw the hi pass filter on there.
>Verse 1: MGMT then Frank, or vice versa. The second solo starts in the group then goes out to the mic because crowds eat that shit up. We would switch from the phrase of 8 to the phrase of 6 obviously. Then we would have Frank's pre-chorus because it sounds amazing.
>Hook: Take the 4/4 version of the MGMT hook from the Justice remix, keep the Frank version in the phrase of 6/4 so it syncopates with the higher solo. Get the good 'ole over-under.
>Verse 2: Overlay both verses, the stereospace won't interfere because they sing in different registers. Once again Frank's pre-chorus, this time have both solos do octaves.
>The cool bridge from the Justice remix, that menacing part.
>"Electric feel now!"
>Close with both hooks, softly.
Masterpiece right there.
TL;DR - One high solo, one low solo, syncopation between the solos, big harmony in the back.
People know the original version of Electric Feel, and any Odd Future fan knows the Frank Ocean version. The Justice remix won an award or something, but ultimately is just being used for some of the timing and structure rather than actually contributing musically to the piece.
Bottom line people know it and it's cool.
We would have to edit the Frank Ocean lyrics a little bit obviously. "I've been meaning to ___ you in the garden." or something along those lines.
