Is it still possible to get an API key? I would like to experiment with a command line application for OSX and Linux platforms. I don't believe there is anything out there like this, although if there is I would be very interested to learn about it?

Check out Orochi: https://github.com/dbrgn/orochi I hope you like it. I never tested it on OSX though.
