Is there a way to get the track list (just the author and the title)
for each playlist from the REST service?
I'm thinking of statistics possibilities, but I found the only way to
know the track list is to listen to the playlist. Is there another way
tha I haven't found or is this an information you can't give out?

I don't know if this is kosher, but if you just call next track instead if skip till you hit the end of the playlist, and dont play any tracks, you'll have all that data, but you should throw in some delays to make sure you don't slam the API servers too hard. Remi will hopefully chime in on this. Also a useful technique for a playlist system that doesn't have to buffer between each song.

Joel, thanks for replying.

Edoardo, there's no way to get track listing because it's not actually
legal per our license. Also the API is not made for that purpose so
please don't bombard us with requests.

If you're interested in running stats on analytics on our dataset,
send me a private email and I'll see if I can send you anything.

Cheers,

Remi

Are there any plans to add this functionality (getting all tracks in a mix before playing them back)? It seems like a very reasonable request for people building apps around 8tracks.
At least , it should be offered for 'logged in' users - that way 8tracks gets to increase its sign-ups and app developers get the playlist ahead of time (to build a better playback experience).
Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Unfortunately it's against our licensing agreements to announce which tracks are coming. Our API simply reflects the license as much as possible in order to play nicely with the content owner.

Maybe in the future though, you never know :)
