I spent several hours this weekend with the Learn & Teach Projects that were submitted by Friday's deadline and I want to provide some information about the process and results before I return the project score  sheets on Tuesday.

Students who submitted their project by the due date will have one opportunity to make changes and resubmit their project for rescoring.  In this sense, the current grade is not final.  Students who want to see their score improve should look to the scores and comments on their grading sheet as a guide for revisions.  Students may also want to meet with me if they are uncertain about what to do or if they feel that I missed something in grading their project.  Fixing a couple of minor errors might not change the grade at all.  Students who are resubmitting a project MUST return the original materials along with the resubmission.  I would encourage them to also provide a summary of the changes they have made.

Students who received an extension to turn the project in this week will NOT be able to resubmit.  Use the extra time to get it right.

For those students who submitted a project along with a cover sheet, there were no scores lower than a 'C' and the highest scores were full credit A+.  Students who did not submit a cover sheet can get one from me and turn it in along with any changes they want to make to their project.

Throughout this process, I have been available as a resource as students worked through the topic identification, research and construction phases.  I would describe my role as a guide, rather than leader: assisting students with what they might be looking for and where they might find it, rather than telling them what to look for and where to find it.  This is not a perfect process: I heard expressions of excitement and pride on Friday along with tears of frustration.  I am always open to feedback from students and parents and try to make adjustments based on what I receive.

I will be posting the projects for peer exploration as part of Quarter 4 to provide students with a chance to 'teach' others about their topic.
