Draper Arts Council will be presenting
its fourth annual Big
Band Tribute August 1-2 at the Draper Amphitheater (944
East Vestry Road).
Downbeat will be at 8 p,m., with a pre-show starting at 7:30.
As in past years, this year’s Tribute will re-create the
atmosphere of a 1940s live radio broadcast, purportedly
originating from the Rainbow Randevu in Salt
Lake City. The Randevu was a large
dance hall in downtown Salt
Lake that played
host over the years to all the Big Bands of the Swing Era.
The program will include such perennial favorites as “Puttin’
on the Ritz,” “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” and “Blue
Skies.” The Rainbow Randevu Band, Singers, and Dancers will
also present “I Got Rhythm,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Besame
Mucho” and many others. The Arts Council has installed a dance
floor so that patrons can dance as well as listen to the great
old tunes.
All tickets are $5, and they are available at the door or at
the DAC website, www.draperartscouncil.org.
