Hi everyone,

It’s giving season and we’ve started writing up our plans, as well as funding needs, for the next year. We’re excited about our recent success in hiring, as well as the potential impact of future hires, so we intend to raise nearly twice as much as our previous largest round.

We’ve decided to delay publishing our annual review until mid-Jan, so that we can hear back from the Open Philanthropy Project before posting it. They’re our largest donor, so their decision will have a major impact on our financial situation and fundraising targets.

That said, the size of our funding round means I expect us to have significant room for additional funding, so please consider us before making your final decisions this year.

If you need to donate before the end of the US tax year, we’d be happy to discuss it with you ahead of time, and may be able to send a draft of the review. Please email me with questions.

Until the annual review comes out, you can learn more about why to donate to 80,000 Hours in this recent write up by the EA Meta Fund, or Open Phil’s grant write up from 2017.

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a restful break, and happy holidays.
