Once again post a passage (or more if you like!) that you find significant in the final chapter of "To Kill a Mockingbird". Take the time, too, to browse the postings from your classmates - you may find a quote that would be great for your essay!

"....... Low-down skunk with enough liquor in him to make him brave enough to kill children. He'd never have met you face to face."
Atticus shook his head. "I can't conceive of a man who'd---"
"Mr. Finch, there's just some kind of men you have to shoot before you can say hidy to 'em. Even then, they ain't worth the bullet it takes to shoot 'em. Ewell 'as one of 'em." (pgs 360-361/ End of chp 29)

(Mr. Tate)"'To my way of thinkin', Mr. Finch, taking the one man who's done you and this town a great service an' draggin' him with his shy ways into the limelight--to me that's a sin...'
(Scout) 'Mr. Tate was right.'
Atticus disengaged himself and looked at me. 'What do you mean?'
(Scout) 'Well it'd be sort of like shootin' a mocking bird wouldn't it?'

"Boo's children needed him. Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley porch was enough."

Of course... even Boo Radley got sick sometimes, I thought.  But on the other hand I wasn't sure.

"Yes sir, I understand," I reassured him. "Mr. Tate was right."
Atticus disengaged himself and looked at me. "What do you mean?"
"Well, it'd be sort of like shootin' a mockingbird, wouldn't it?"
Atticus put his face in my hair and rubbed it. When he got up and walked across the porch into the shadows, his youthful step had returned. Before he went inside the house, he stopped in front of Boo Radley. "Thank you for my children, Arthur," he said.

After that, it didn't matter whether they went or not. Jem said he would take me. Thus began our longest journey together.

Question about the end: Did Jem die?

Maycomb was itself again. Precisely the same as last year and the year before that, with only two minor changes. Firstly, people had removed from their store windows and automobiles the sticker that said NRA - WE DO OUR PART. I asked Atticus why, and he said it was because the National Recovery Act was dead. I asked who killed it: he said nine old men.

Also a great quote - so interesting to contrast Heck's view with Atticus's!

The street light on the corner cast sharp shadows on the Radley house, I herd Jem laugh softly. 'Bet nobody bothers them tonight,' he said. Jem was carrying my ham costume, rather awkwardly, as it was hard to hold. I thought it gallant of him to do so. 'It is a scary place though, ain't it?' I said. 'Boo doesn't mean anybody any harm, but I'm right glad you're along." P.341
