As planned, we started recording last night at the rehearsal studio while we have this short break in the show schedule. We spent most of the evening setting up the drums, placing microphones, checking levels, and getting some scratch sounds going. Drums are probably the most difficult thing to record properly, so it's important to take your time with them, even when they're just scratch tracks.

I'm looking forward to the actual recording process - I haven't done any studio recording in over 10 years, so it should be fun. It's amazing to me how great quality recording has really become accessible to the average musician that doesn't have label backing. A computer, some fancy software, some good microphones, and a fancy interface, and you're ready to rock with a studio quality recording.

Wednesday night I record my actual non-scratch bass tracks. It looks like I'm using my Ibanez and not the Fender, it seems to sound better, which was very surprising to me, but everyone agrees. The signal is a little hotter with the Ibanez, and it makes a difference. I'm going to try tracks with fingers and with a pick, and see which sounds better. I'll let you know how it goes.
