November 7^th, they participate in the Intel Global Challenge at UC Berkeley-USA

Egypt, Lebanon and Yemen win the top three places in the final of the 7^th Arab Technology Business Competition

 

Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar, President of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) announced that Egypt, Lebanon and Yemen succeeded in catching the top three ranks in the final of the 7^th Arab Technology Business Plan Competition (TBPC), that organized by the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) in partnership with Intel Corporation and in collaboration with the United Nations for Industrial Development "UNIDO". The Egyptian team ï؟½Nano-Dxï؟½ occupied the first place. They presented a project that uses nanotechnology and gold for the development of a cure for hepatitis C virus, which infects more than 200 million people around the world, especially for cases of cancer and cirrhosis of the liver. This technology is based on attacking the infected cells only and treated it. The team is led by Dr. Hassan M. E. Azzazy (coordinator), Tamer M. Samir, Sherif Mohamed Shawky, Mai M. H. Mansour and Ahmed H. Tolba.

 

The Bahraini capital Manama, on October 25th, hosted the final ceremony of the 7th TBPC, under the patronage and participation of H.E. Dr. Hassan Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Bahrain, who welcomed the pioneers of Arab business, and stressing that they are Arab people capable of building the knowledge economy and to achieve industrial and technological renaissance, represented by Dr. Abdullah Mansour, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.  In addition to the patronage and participation of H.E. Shiekh Ebrahim Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of board ARCEIT - UNIDO - Arab regional center for Entrepreneurship and investment training.

 

Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar added that the Lebanese team ï؟½Herbaticaï؟½ occupied the second position, led by Wafic Nehme, Mary Hajj, Alexandre Nehme, Touma makhoul, Tony Al-zoughby, lawyer expert and Fady Aziz. Their main focus is on the body's immune system, they targeted to strengthen this system and give him, whatever it takes to preserve its health and vitality. They can benefit from herbs in many ways, and know that each plant have a very specific way to extract the essence of healing. It is very important to know the exact origin of each plant and treat it according to hygiene standards. The Yemeni team ï؟½OD Boardï؟½ occupied the third position. OD Boards (Outdoor Boards) is an online platform that helps interested companies book advertising space on billboards according to the demographic and geographical campaign needs in the Middle East. OD Boards will be directed only to the "Billboards" advertising market that are found in streets, public places, roofs of buildings, walls of buildings or bridges. The Target customers are the advertising agencies and large companies that operate regionally or globally in the Middle East.

 

Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar emphasized on the importance of the cooperation between ASTF and Intel Corporation, to support the Arab entrepreneurs in the region, also he praised UNIDOï؟½s support. He mentioned that the top three winners will receive financial rewards to help in transforming their ideas to startup technological companies. The first place will receive 10,000 US Dollar, The second place 6,000 US Dollar, and 4,000 US Dollar for the third place winner, in additional to their participation in the Intel Global Challenge at UC Berkeley-USA from 7-9 November, 2011.  The winners from the forth to the eighth place will participate on the Technology investment Forum, that organized by ASTF yearly, and gather the business entrepreneurs and business men, who is interested in investing in technology.

Dr. Hashim Hussein, Manager of Investment and Technology Promotion Office at the UNIDO referred that Arab entrepreneurs have demonstrated great competence and the ability to learn through training workshops, which enabled them to develop business plans and absorb the data and the market environment, to convert their ideas to a promising technology companies.

 

It should be noted that that the number of projects that have reached the final of the Arab Technology Business Plan Competition TBPC, were 50 projects representing, for 50 Arab entrepreneurs, from 15 countries are: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, and Arab entrepreneurs from Italy, France and United States of America. Note that the number of projects that participated in the start, reached to 224 projects, only 81 projects meet the whole conditions.
