Hello neighbors,

I wanted to check if anyone has information about recent fire related activity on our block. This past Friday around 4am, approximately four fire trucks came through our street with whistling alarms. They left after 5 minutes. Then on Sunday night (last night) roughly the same time, a gas detector alarm was sounding for about 20 minutes.

As a light sleeper extraordinaire, I couldn’t help but notice these sounds. I'm grateful our emergency management systems work. And I'm curious if anyone knows what prompted these events or has any information to share. Just want to make sure everything is okay.

Thanks!
Val

Great question. It woke me up too and I saw the fire engines on the block and I asked a few  people on the block. A lot slept through it. Wonder if it was related to all the gas related work happening on Garfield.

Studies have been done showing that the majority of alarms are not helpful and often cause more accidents.

Does a gas leak really justify the noise pollution?

I often see emergency vehicles just using their alarms simply to get to go through lights. It's annoying.

I don't think snarky comments and suppositions as to why lights and sirens are being utilized are beneficial to this group.
