Reda's Story:
Reda and his grandmother are here from Morocco, and Reda is currently a patient at Shriners Hospital in Cincinnati. Reda’s parents divorced when he was 3 yrs old, due to his father’s abuse. His mother remarried, however his step-father didn’t ...want a step child in the house. Reda went to live with his grandmother. After a period of time his father tried to coerce Reda to move in with him. Unsuccessful, his fathers resentment grew.
One day, Reda went to visit his father. As soon as Reda entered the house his father doused him with a flammable accelerant, lit a match and tossed it on him, setting Reda on fire. Before he lit the match, the father closed the door to the bathroom and the kitchen, and as Reda burned his father teased him with a cup of water. He taunted him on how one little cup will not help him then threw the cup of water at him. However, God had a different plan, and all the flames were extinguished.
The neighbors heard the screams and broke down the door, scooping up Reda and taking him directly to the hospital. The father claimed that Reda spilled a boiling pot of soup on himself. While in the hospital his father came to see him a few times, only to find out if he will live, and threaten him if he ever told anyone what really happened.
After a period of time when it was clear that Reda was not going to die, his father asked if he would like to eat one of his favorite foods. The father returned with the dish. Reda and his grandmother (who has not left his side) consumed the food, only to become violently ill as the food was poisoned.
At night Reda would cry; his cries were so loud that the entire floor could hear his agony. This agony was just not physical, he confessed to his grandmother that the pain in his heart was greater than his burns because it was his father that did this to him. A police investigation was initiated and his father was arrested and jailed. The threats still didn’t stop, his father, who has high contacts outside of prison, told him that he would find a way to have Reda killed.
A non-profit organization got involved and said that they would help Reda and send him and his grandmother, either to the United States or Europe, for more advanced medical care. However, all the money that was collected for his treatment and travel was stolen. Reda and his story went out in newspapers in Morocco, and an anonymous man paid for a plane ticket for him and his grandmother to come to Shriners here in Cincinnati.
The money ends with that. They have no sponsor, no money, and Reda fears for his life if he returns to Morocco. Reda’s visa has expired and the Grandmothers is about to expire, and unfortunately Shriners can’t help them with their visa situation.
A lawyer is needed to help them stay here and they need money for daily living. While he is inpatient, Shriners is able to help with a small amount of money each week, but even that will be stopped when he is discharged to an outpatient status, only returning for Therapy.
They need your help! Anything that you can give them can help so much.
An account has been opened at US Bank in Reda's grandmother's name. If you go to any US Bank branch and tell them that you would like to make a deposit into the account of RKIA AJMARI. This is the name of the grandmother.
