Subject: An Opportunity to Help Our Sisters/Families in Need
To: Farhana Ali <preside...@tmwf.org>

Assalamu alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak!

InshaAllah (God willing), you are in the best of health and good fortune.  We are writing to you today to tell you the story of AK who is a single mother shouldering the responsibility of several children. Her husband, after abusing her for many years, abandoned the family . She heard about TMWF from a friend and approached us after her husband left.  She was fearful, nervous, confused and overcome with a feeling of helplessness. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God),  TMWF's case managers under the able guidance of our Program Director have in a brief period of two years, turned her life around. We have helped her with legal services, counseling, financial aid, and also helped file for Crime Victims Compensation.  All her children were helped with school necessities (backpack program) at the start of the school year last September.  We have placed the the family in a safe location so she does not have to worry about rent payments for a year and feel confident  that her ex-husband will not be able to find or harm her or the children.
TMWF  also helped her apply for several jobs and  she has succeeded in finding a part time job. Due to the emotional upheavals of the past years, her son refused to go to school at the new location.  TMWF again stepped in, visited the school with the mother and had a long discussion with the school counselor.  Now the child is not having any problems with truancy.  For the first time since they left their country, she had a birthday celebration for one of her children.  She told us that it was one of the rare days when she and her family felt joy and peace.

We are humbly requesting your support and an opportunity to gain reward by helping TMWF to support those Sisters and their families in need who will be staying in the TMWF domestic violence shelter (Peaceful Oasis) when it is ready for move-in after operational funds are raised.    With your past donations we have hired the majority of the needed well-qualified staff, acquired the property and completed the renovations necessary to improve the building and comply with the ADA and city codes for this type of shelter.  TMWF has raised awareness of the problem in our community (10% of all Muslim women) and provided the women who are victims a place to turn to for help instead of accepting their circumstances and staying in harmful situations.

In just the first half of of this year, we have already taken on 101 new DV victims. We are providing counseling, case management, legal/immigration service access and assistance with training and job placement with the work of our Social Services.  The staff has given hope and encouragement to these ladies and their kids in an extremely stressful and difficult time of their lives.  By getting the children out of these situations and providing counseling, we are breaking the cycle of violence that is proven to repeat in their adult homes otherwise.  For those in dire need and as a last resort, the shelter will provide a place for them to collect themselves and feel safe while they transition to caring for themselves.

As some of you have already done so...JizakhAllah Khairan...your support is greatly appreciated!  For the others, please do consider supporting these courageous women in need by any of the following ways:

1.  Make an ongoing monthly commitment for operating costs for the shelter of $25 $50, $100, $150, $200, $500 or more per month to help take care of the shelter guests.  Please contact us for options on how to do this or see attached pledge form or go to the "Donate Now" button at www.tmwf.org  - Zakat can be used for this purpose.

2.  Make a donation of any amount and consider TMWF to be a place for your annual support.  Go to the "Donate Now" button at www.tmwf.org. If eligible for company matching, we can provide any information you need to set this up (already setup for Verizon, SAP, BP, Microsoft).

3.  Help with shelter setup by donating something from the Peaceful Oasis wish list.

4.  Use TMWF as charity of choice at your local grocery "Good Neighbor" program - Kroger (see attached) for which a percentage of your receipt total will come to TMWF once you set it up.

5.  Help us by encouraging your Shuras to support TMWF in this effort as we are providing free service to all who come to us throughout North Texas and qualify based on various criteria.

Your donation will:

$25   - provide a food box for needy family
$50   - keeps a mother and child safe for one night
$50   - will provide 1 hour of counseling for a child who has been abused or has witnessed domestic violence
$75   - back to school supplies for our "Backpack Project"
$100 - will pay for 2 hours legal representation in court for a victim of family violence
$150 - utilities for the shelter for one month
$200 - pays for one month of childcare
$600 - fund the domestic violence hotline for one year
$1500 - provide meals for a week at the shelter at full capacity (16)

Without the support of our community, helping our sisters will become a difficult task...they need all of us, InshaAllah.

JizakhAllah Khairan...may Allah be pleased with your and our efforts.
