Hey Everyone,

We're considering doing this again in December. While I had a ton of fun putting it together last year I'd like for it to be more of a team effort this year. I don't mind handling the teaching aspects but as far as securing sponsorships, a venue, and general organizing I'd love to have some help.

Is anyone up for volunteering? It'd be pretty cool if we could get a page up for this. It is of course a language independent event.

Thanks!

I'm up for spending a couple hours at Start Norfolk this weekend building the page.  Anyone else interested?

I just spoke with Zack and we can do it at Hatch, so we have a venue.  Carry Norfolk can sponsor delivery of the food/drinks. Just let me know if we can find someone to pay for the food/drinks we deliver.

Another option to sponsorships is we each pay something small like $5-10 a pop.  What do you all think?

I'm definitely down.  I was sad I had to miss the last one, and Dec is currently empty for me.  We'd definitely would cross-promote with HRNUG.

Can't do it this weekend. Maybe we can do it at one of our weekly hackathons?

We can find sponsors for food.

Regarding us all chipping in money I'd like to stay away from that. Its supposed to be a free event. I would consider letting people pay if we had shirts for people. Maybe we could even have a global shirt campaign. Not sure.

I noticed we have the code retreat github project created: https://github.com/757rb/code_retreat_2013
We don't have any content in it yet and I don't see how I can add content -- I have some notes I would like to throw in the wiki.
Are we going to do a static site (a la Jeykll)??

Also ->

Ken: when you get a chance, can you see if we need to be added to the repo in the organization (757rb) -- or is this something I can do?

Cool. I started a shell, but I think we need to add an initial commit of a REAME or something on the repo so we can do a pull request. We might have to get Ken C. to do that.

If you wanted to, you could use either of these as ways I have worked with Jekyll in the past.

Below is the message I received from Jim who is heading Global Day of Coderetreat in case this hasn't been captured anywhere

---

Hello Ryan,

I noticed you have not signed up yet to host a coderetreat for this year's Global Day of Coderetreat (December 14th). Your support last year helped to make a great day!

Our goal this year is to have 200 cities participate in the Global Day of Coderetreat. I wanted to reach out to you and see if you would be willing to host again this year. Your participation would really help us to reach our goal. Registration is easy, just fill out the form found at:

http://bit.ly/gdcr13forhosts

We are working hard to make improvements to enable this year's GDCR to be the smoothest one yet! For example, we have created a single page that contains all of the resources needed to organize and run a coderetreat.

Feel free to pass along any feedback you have so we can all work together to make things better this year. Also, if you have decided not to host this year, could you let me know why? I value your thoughts and opinions and want to make coderetreat easier and better for everyone, everywhere.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Jim++

After talking to Ken over the weekend if we want to hold this event at the minimum we just need to do the following:

-  Confirm location with Hatch
-  Open registration on EventBrite

Both of these should be done this week. The nice to haves would be

-  Secure sponsors for food
-  Creating a static site for advertising

You can volunteer or confirm whether these tasks are done or not here: https://github.com/757rb/organizing/blob/master/events/2013-12-14-coderetreat.md

I couldn't figure out a way to make the event repeat so we'll just have to do a copy and a paste of this page: https://gdcrnorfolk.eventbrite.com. We should probably also use the 757rb google account so that the eventbrite account isn't owned by a single person.

Good catch, Stanley!

Ian,

Thanks again for getting this in place :)

But -- 4 quick things:

1. You might want to set the start time to be 8:30am -- assuming 2 things: people will probably be a little late and we want to start the sessions on time, and we need time for the attendees to get coffee in them and wake up for the sessions.
2. We need to link to our GDCR site: http://coderetreat.org/events/global-day-of-coderetreat-2013-norfolk-u-s  (we will need to turn off the event on that site and point to eventbrite on that site)
3. We should change the logo to something for GDCR. I have attached one that I made and one that is a possibility-- you pick.
4. I might be wrong because I didn't register, but there is no location info on the eventbrite site (i.e. address for Hatch) -- we want that to show up so they can use just the eventbrite print up if they need to.

Also, I created a bit.ly link for publicizing the eventbrite link: http://bit.ly/NorfolkGDCR2013  or http://bit.ly/gdcr2013norfolk
BTW -- I have been in contact with UDig as a possible sponsor.

Hope that helps,
