Hey Everyone,

I'm starting to fear that I'm overextending myself. I need some help on the organization side. I feel like we've built up quite the momentum and I don't want to jeopardize that just because I'm getting a little burned out.

What I do is pretty basic and I'm sure a lot of it can be automated.

1. Find a speaker for the next meeting. I've actually got about six or seven people lined up for this so its not a problem. We don't have someone for October so Ken or I may just step up if no one else volunteers.

2. Contact speakers and schedule when they can talk. This could be an opportunity to meet a ton of other people in the community. It just involves some back and forth finding out when people are available to come speak.

3. Announce speakers on twitter, meetup, and google groups. Continue announcements the week before, the day before, and the actual day. All of this can be automated and would be a cool project for the weekly hacknights.

If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it. This would allow me to get back to the teaching/mentoring side of the group.

Thanks!

Ryan,

WRT #3 - Any reason you're not using Bufferapp?

Sweet.

Stanley - Do you want to handle 2? I'm considering hiring a virtual assistant so that may help with this?

Brandon - Do you want to use Bufferapp to handle 3?

I think he means:

2. Contact speakers and schedule when they can talk. This could be an opportunity to meet a ton of other people in the community. It just involves some back and forth finding out when people are available to come speak.

Ryan,

I'll be happy to help out with communications. Do you have the schedule for speakers and meetings so I can get started? Maybe put it in Github somewhere? Also I'll need access to the 757rb twitter and Meetup accounts if you want me to post through those.

Awesome way to step everyone. I still need to talk to Ken about this but I think our goal is for this group to be self sustaining without him or I.

Because we're developers I've created a wiki page on our site for people to volunteer for tasks: https://github.com/757rb/757rb.org/wiki/Group-Tasks

Its a rough list and still has to be broken down further. The cool thing about this is if you volunteer via a pull request it'll show up on your github profile (aka the modern day developer resume).

For our next meeting Ken will be presenting (abstract is in progress) and I will give a 15 minute lightning talk on empowering ownership of the user group.

See you guys next week!

Bests,

Well that's a shame. I was completely wrong on PRs to the wiki page. Let me think about this for a week.

My number one thing is that I want everyone's contributions to our group to be transparent.

Ryan,

Thanks for opening a discussion. Hopefully I can help out once we are in the full swing of Fall. I sent Brandon and Stanley the super secret twitter creds and even set them up as co-organizers on meetup.com.

Thanks Ken! I just want to be sure everyone feels they own the group. I don't want it to ever loose traction because your or I have to take less responsibility every now and then.

BTW - I've added a list of people that need to be talked to present at 757rb https://github.com/757rb/757rb.org/wiki/Group-Tasks

I think what we'll just end up doing is creating a static page for the 757rb site with tasks. That way people's pull requests or claims for tasks can come in the form of a PR. We'll rap about this at the next meeting.
