POETRY IS DEEP

 

“Insert it…

Put it in, carefully, and

Make sure it does not draw blood

Know this is a virgin skin”;

“Please open up

…or does it hurt?

Ah! This small thing!

Never worry, it doesn’t kill

And it will soon be over.”

 

The doctor’s words to nurse and baby patient

With the urgency from the African malarial attack

Very confusing and misleading to the impatient

And sassy to the naïve

Never see the poet as absurd, presenting quotations

Poetry is very deep

Deeper than the mining pit

Poetry is packed

And meant for the discerning mind
