Deeper than the eyes can seeI learn a little slower than most
I stutter with a lot of my words I can't
always express what I feel So most the time
I let my feelings go untold
Kids at school love to tease
They think it's funny that
I have an incurable mental disease
They point an laugh Just cause I'm different
They don't know there's more to me
Then what the eyes Can see
But they don't care
They rather bully me
I have autism I live in my own little
world full of confusion
I have meltdowns
Just cause of unexpected changes
I have sleepless nights I want to fight
But I'm human and I have feeling
And a heart.
If closed minded people gave me a chance
They'd see the only difference between you and me is
I see everything deeper than eyes can see

Author's note:
I wrote this poem for my oldest child, who is now 13. He has been bullied all his life but what kids -and, sadly, even adults- don't realize is that he has "fragile X syndrome", which caused ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) Bipolar Autism, a small case of retardation -- but he is perfect to me.
