Mathematically Precise

you plus I made family

our blinking eyes have multiplied

one dimple dents three cheeks
and that skewed toe we used
to giggle about?

it has a twitching double

oh remember those naked nights
before the babies cried
then talked and walked and grew
higher than me in my shiny highest heels!

now our jasmine walls echo
from four trembling vocal ranges
and two guitars
(strum by twenty teenaged fingers)

and with one scalloped knife
we slice a loaf of bread
and spread
from the same bottle of marmelade

for we love and care

enough to share
our summer vacation memories
and the dog
and the wind
plus the squeak

of the cherry wooden front door
