In my experience, seating issues with Hetres + Velocity Synergy are
essentially insignificant. Yes, occasionally you might need a tiny bit
of hand manipulation or overinflation to get the line perfect, but it's
no big deal and certainly nothing like the situation with Col de la Vie
+ Synergy.

Hi Steve,

I've had the same easy-fitting experience with the Soma B line and Soma Express as well as the Hetres. And I've had several tires on the same Synergy rims. None have been difficult, but I suppose the supple side walls have made the Soma and Hetres fit so easily.

There seems to be significant tolerances in the manufacture of Synergy rims. When we tested a "new and improved" Synergy rim, the tire seating was OK.

When I had a test bike recently with very recently-made Synergies, I could not make the Hetre tires, nor the Pari-Motos, seat perfectly even after 15 minutes of trying. Two sets of Hetres, plus Pari-Motos, meaning tires from three different production runs - can't be the tires at that point, must be the rims.

I have had some problems with Hetres seating on Synergies as well.
Lierres seat much more easily. At his point i am more worried about
Synergy rim cracking than fit.

Any feedback on the A23s in 650b?

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the replies.

So any suggested rims?

A23's worked great for me. I used Stan's yellow tape and their sealant. No problems sealing at the tire bead, but I'm still having leaks through the tire carcass.

My new PL23 was designed to be used in tubeless applications, has a
perfect fit and seals with the Pari-Moto and Hetre tires extremely
well.

It has a classic look that fits in well on a lot of 650B bikes. Nice job Kirk. I finally saw them in person on Friday when visiting a friend's framebuilding shop.

Thanks again for the replies all. Interesting stuff, especially the range of opinions re the Synergy. I too wonder how the A23 holds up.

Kirk, your rims look great. I admit I have never run tubeless and am a little intimidated to try. Can you run your rims tubed? Or should I just get over it and try tubeless?

You absolutely can use these "tubeless ready" rims with tubes.  I ran my A23's with tubes for about a month before doing the tubeless setup.  Just use them with the thin tubeless rim tape, and use a tube, and you'll be fine.  Thick cloth tape might be a bad idea.

Yes, they can be run with or without tubes. If you have not tried
tubeless you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. It's a little more
work to set up, but once done there is no more work involved than with
tubes.

Kirk:

The rims look great but some specific questions:

Aluminum Alloy used?
Thickness of rim brake track wall?

Wayne,

We use 6061-T6 Alloy for all of our rims.

As for the brake track, I'll just say, it's thick enough. We also
include a wear indicator that will tell you when it's time for a new
rim.

I have had good luck so far with A23's in both 700 and 650b. Approx 1000 mi so far with Lierres.
