Bike History

I started planning this build with Dickson at Wake Robin in the summer of 2019, which is hard to believe. Due to a number of Covid-related hold ups, the bike was delayed for quite a long time.

Once the bike was done, it went to Morgan Taylor for a review on The Radavist, then off to Jan Heine for a review in Bicycle Quarterly and finally to Aaron Erbeck before landing in my hands in summer of 2021.

When I started dreaming up the bike, I had never really ridden gravel for the sake of going fast, nor had I gone bikepacking. I wanted to see what the low trail, lightweight tubing fuss was all about.

Between summer 2019 and summer 2021, I picked up a Curve GXR, then a second Titanium GXR. I started wearing bibs and eventually a full kit, exploring the harsh gravel roads of the Manitoba prairies while finding joy in the fitness an exploration.

When my Wake Robin arrived, the drop bars didn't feel right when comparing to my GXRs. I tried a number of setups, but ultimately decided to put some upright bars on the bike and I've found that it's perfect for me in it's current "chill" form.

I feel like it's a shame for this beautiful, purpose built bike, live a life and a chill commuter. I still have my beautiful Velo Orange Polyvalent, and when I do chill rides with my kids, that's usually what I end up taking, since it has the capacity to carry my bike trailer comfortably.

The bike was built to clear 650 x 48mm tires with fenders and 650 x 2.1" without, however 2.1 is just a hair tight, depend on the rim/tire combo.

Complete Build

As I mentioned, the bike is currently in a slightly different state then when it was initially reviewed. Below is a picture of how it currently stands along with a list of the parts.
