Hey all,

Hope this isn't too silly of a question. I have a M1 rack on my Boulder Bicycle. I'd like to use panniers on the bike for the occasional overnight ride: one man tent, little stove, flask of whiskey, etc. Ideally I'd not like to buy another rack but I don't see a way to attach the panniers to the rack / bike setup as currently constituted. It would be nice if someone made a clever attachment that would go onto the rack and one of the two braze-ons on my fork which would allow for the use of panniers. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!

Steve

Tubus Tara? Doesn't need to interface with the M1 rack at all, since you appear to have available mid-fork low-rider and eyelet attachments. Good complement to the M1 when you need it

That’s an M12 rack, not made for panniers. It’s made to support a bag with a light load. Don’t overload it.

The M12 also lives completely above where a low-rider rack would mount (it's mounts to the fork blades are higher than where a lowrider typically mounts), so there is no advantage in merging components of the two racks.  Just get a Tubus Tara and mount it below the M12.

Bluntly paraphrasing and/or summarizing the responses you have gotten so far.

You will not be hanging panniers on the rack you have.  You will add a supplementary rack to support the panniers of your choosing and it will be awesome.  It will be quick and easy to install your pannier rack, and it won't interfere with your existing rack.  To repeat, do not attempt to hang panniers from either a Nitto M12 or a Nitto M1 front rack.  Those racks are specifically intended to support a very small very top load.  The rack in the photograph may already be massively overloaded, if you take the load recoimmendations of Nitto seriously.  Some retailers of Nitto Racks recommend loads that they pulled out of thin air, and did not come from Nitto.  Please be careful.  Some front rack failure modes can conspire to put the riders head on the ground, and are to be avoided.
