I happened to have all three of these tyres in my stash new and unmounted, so I thought I would make some comparisons - weight, tread thickness, width and height above rim sidewall when mounted. The tread thickness I derived by measuring the thickness with calipers at the centre of the tread and at the sidewall, and subtracting the 2nd value from the first. The Compass casing at the sidewall was 0.5mm thick, the WTB and Panaracer both had 0.8mm casing. The weight I measured on my kitchen scales, so I only took it to the nearest 10g. Each tyre was mounted on an MCFK 27.5 rim with 25mm internal width and inflated to 40 psi for the width and height measurements. Width and height will increase slightly when the tyres have been inflated for a while - these measurements were with unused newly-inflated tyres:

Compass SBH (standard, not extralight): weight 450g, tread thickness 2.7mm, width 48.5mm, height 46mm

WTB Horizon: weight 510g, tread thickness 3.8mm, width 47mm, height 45.5mm

Panaracer Gravelking: weight 540g, tread thickness 3.9mm, width 48mm, height 43.5mm

Panaracer seems to have an issue with making the gravel kings very short for their width. My 700x38 mounted on 23mm internal rims at 45 psi are only 33mm tall but 39mm wide. The 650bx48 GK slicks I measured only 42.7mm tall. Both after more than 500 miles of riding.

Should you be so inclined, I'd love to see your measure of the PSI required for each tire to hit 15% sag. I've done the Horizon and GK and would be curious to compare. It's fairly easy to do with a stack of notecards and a level.

Does tread/sidewall depth correlate meaningfully with flat resistance? I just pulled the GravelKings off my 700c bike and went back to Paselas, at least for the winter, because I was getting so many flats.

Jarno Bierman may be your guy, because he has the measured data on tread and sidewall thicknesses on hundreds (?) of tires as well as ONE measure of puncture resistance.

Puncture Resistance Test

The puncture resistance test is performed with a 1 mm thick, steel needle to which weight can be added. This needle gets positioned on top of the tire, at the center of the tread. More weight gets added until it punctures the tire. This test is performed five times. A score of 10 in the puncture test means it takes twice as much force to puncture when compared to a score of 5.

Interesting measurements. Could you specify which exact tire models you compared?
Are the Compass tires the tubeless-compatible versions? Same question for the GravelKing. I'm assuming you installed all three tires with tubes?

It's interesting that the Gravelking and Compass tires seems to be very different depending on whether you have the 650B or the 700C version: The 700x38C TLC version weighs only 320 grams (I measured it at 335 g), compared to a claimed weight of 380 g in the Extralight and 430 g for the standard version of the Compass tire in the equivalent size. But in 650x48B the Compass tires are by far the lighter ones. I have to see if I still have an unused Gravelking in 700x38C and can measure the tread thickness.

Totally. The 42 GK Slicks were lighter than the BSP extra lights, but in 48 they were heavier than the Horizons, which surprised me. I got the 48's hoping they'd be light at 48 as they were at 42. I ended up returning them.

@Harald: all three tyres were the tubeless-compatible version, & all three were inflated with a tube in them for the size measurements.
