Interesting indeed. The price isn't too bad, considering the (newish) parts, and even the rear fender looks Rinko-able. Good thing it's not my size!

Cool bike although I don't know why the eBay ad says "adapted to 650B". The brakes appear to be in the right location and Grant's write up suggests that at least the smaller sizes were 650B. Maybe someone had 650A on there which is more common in Japan?

Picked up at Goodwill for $12.95.

Those wheels and the Campy group are worth the asking price. Heck, there's $100 worth of Nitto bottle cages on that bike.

So let me get this straight - the BS Atlantis was originally a 650A frame, and this auction is for that said frame... but seller has converted it to 650B wheels?

Yes, it was converted from 650A (590bsd) to 650B (584bsd). The Japanese standardized on 650A for their French style bikes rather than 650B. Also, 650A (590bsd) is the British 3-speeder wheel size. Panaracer makes a Col de la Vie tire in 650A, BTW. A few years ago I had a Japanese domestic market Eurasia rando bike similar to this Atlantis which had 650A wheels.

 

Back when I first converted my modern Trek bikes to 650B, Matthew Grimm - the originator of the Kogswell brand, suggested that we consider going to 650A and calling them "590 Superbikes" because he could easily get 590 (650A) parts from Taiwan, and 650B hadn't caught-on yet. Furthermore, it looked a little bleak when Mitsuboshi went out of business and the Trimlines tires were discontinued. We had some dialog about all of this on the email list at the time. That's the backstory, FWIW.

 

The Atlantis listed on ebay also has a full Campy Ergopower drivetrain which is not original. I think that somebody got a pretty good deal on that bike.
