In my effort to scrounge parts for future conversion projects, I came across a factoid... that the obscure Schwinn Mirada ATB bike of the late 80's or early 90's was made with the 650B wheel size (notated in the catalog as 'the 1 1/2 Terra Tire which provides less rolling resistance and fewer flats.")

Has anyone used (re-used) a set of this Schwinn bike model, and address it's efficacy (now there's a 14 dollar word). I actually picked up a cheapo set a few years back, made by Alesa, and I'm wondering if this is where they came from.
thanks!

Mark

I've got a set of those Schwinn wheels with Alesa rims on my Miyata porteur.
Nothing fancy, but they work fine!

I’ve been happy with 650B rims off both Schwinn Suburbans and Miradas.  Plenty strong and decent looking.  I’ve got one set laced to a pair of old Pelissier hubs on my Bleriot and they’ve been trouble free for 5+ years...

Mark,

Which year(s) of Suburban have the 650B wheels?

Thanks,

Mitch - San Luis Obispo, CA

Yeah, I got a pair of those as well, they are pretty nice wide simple
rims, othing special, but they work. I got my Mirada from the local
goodwill for 15 bucks. I think the rims were salvagable and I sold the
fork (650B canti) on ebay for slightly more than I bought the bike
for. Otherwise the rest of the bike was almost complete crap, the
rest was recycled.

for pics of the wheels,
