Anyone have 1 or 2 spares they'd like to part with? After converting my '86 Trek 560 to 650b 3 years ago, these have been the widest tires I could fit. I just split the casing on the rear today after a piece of sharp gravel cut through the tread ;-{

Any thoughts on different, more accessible tires that ride smooth and don't mind getting dusty and dirty?

Thanks,
Jay

I hope this doesn't seem too much like "Let Me Google That For You", but they're not too difficult to order from Japan.  Can you boot the cut tire to ride while waiting for overseas shipping?  It's been a while since I bought anything from them but I seem to remember shipping didn't take too terribly long.

Notice how Grand Bois becomes "Grand Bore", I think because the Japanese characters are transliterated phonetically.  It's a good enough translation to get the job done though.

The non-EL standard casing is just ¥4000, under $40.  Shipping will be a bit high, but the tires will still be cheaper than getting them retail in America, if you can even find them.

If I recall, the way shipping works is you put the quantity you want in your shopping cart, then wait for them to get back to you with the shipping cost. Might wait a day due to the time zone.  Then you can cancel if it's too high, or pay and complete the deal.

I paid with PayPal, which handles the currency conversion for you, easy.

Even better, visit the Grand Bois web site with Chromium and it'll translate automatically.

My experience as well.  It was quite simple, and shipping was as quick as if I'd ordered from Nashbar or Performance.  And they sent me this lovely catalog that I scanned and posted on my Google drive.

Thanks Mark, Since I wasn't too far from home and on pavement, I booted the tire and made it home just fine. I do need to recover that $1 soon.  :-}

I did try to use their website but I'm not sure if I ordered tires or not...I'll just have to wait a day or two to find out.. I did receive a PM from another member and am working on buying a pair of lightly used Cypres in the mean time. It looks like I'll soon be set for tires.

Scott Davis in Minneapolis, the US importer for Grand Bois, is a member of the CR and iBOB groups, but I don't think he's here. He just got in a big delivery; you might give him a try.

Peter,  yes I'm here, now.   Unfortunately,  I don't have 650B x 32 in stock.  I only have 650x36.

I've been using the 650bx32 Hutchinson "Confrérie des 650B" for several years, for similar reasons of a limit on the size of tyre I could fit in a particular frame. They roll nicely, seem to last pretty well, and you can get them from XXCycle in France for €23 (about $US27) a tyre. The quality of the tyre is far higher than the price would indicate - I've also used the Grand Bois Cypres and can't say that I could detect any difference in feel between the two.

And if you want something slightly smaller, Schwalbe now make a 605bx30: https://www.schwalbetires.com/node/3026. I bought some of these from a German web seller a while ago to put on a DeRosa that my wife rides, as the frame wouldn't fit a 700c larger than 25mm, and I had a spare pair of lightweight 650b wheels. The Schwalbes actually measure 30mm on Velocity Aerohead rims (Velocity made a limited 650b production run of these about a dozen years ago).

If you need or want a set I have a NOS still in plastic sealed package, I think from the early runs, so probably 12 or more years old.  Stored in my basement, never dry or bright sun.

Would that DeRosa fit 650b\32's or do those 30's max it out? Also, how's it ride compared the 700c\25's? I ask because I've got a DeRosa and a spare set of 650b wheels and I kinda like the idea.
