FS: 2011 Ebisu 650b x 42mm $1500 local pick up in Emeryville, California (near Berkeley)

I offer for sale my 2011 Ebisu randonneur (frame/fork/headset/brakes/Honjo fenders/front & rear racks). This bike was designed specifically for 650b x 42mm Grand Bois Hetre tires.

I ordered this in early 2011 and it was ready in May 2011. I had Hiroshi Iimura of Jitensha Studio build it up in February 2012 and he featured it on his blog:

https://2rin.wordpress.com/2012/02/29/ap%E3%80%82650%E2%88%9242b%E3%80%82ラグレス%E3%80%82/

The bike is partially disassembled so what I offer is the frame, fork, Dura Ace headset, Toei cable hanger, Shimano cantilever brakes, installed custom front and rear racks, installed Honjo fenders, original chain stay protector and a Sakae Ringo vintage 27.2mm seat post.

The "hammered" Honjo fenders are totally rigid without any play or movement.

The fork is mixed lugged, bilaminate and fillet brazed construction and has an OS down tube. Designed for me as a 6 ft tall 190lb rider.

The front fork has internal wiring in the LEFT fork blade and a light mount on the left side of the front rack. The rear rack is a small oval-shaped one that mainly stabilizes the rear fender but it can support smaller panniers if needed. The racks alone cost more than $1000 and the option of wiring in the fork blade was additional too.

Note: this bike has randonneur geometry and is designed for riding with a front handlebar bag. It is 58.5cm x 58.5cm center to center and was designed for a 80mm stem.

It is in great condition with only a few small paint chips. A little dust and road grime. No dents or whatever and never crashed. In fact this bike was ridden very little because I have several other custom bikes. This has been gathering dust in my apartment, and I am getting ready to move and have some bills to pay.

Let me know if you are interested and later today when I am home I will follow up with some pictures.

Thanks. I’m happy to answer questions. I am interested in a local sale, as I don’t have a car to bring it to a bike shop or materials to pack it up safely. I can be flexible about a meeting time.

Wow, lovely machine.  Is that the Tonbo model?  It'd fit me like a glove and is exactly what I wish my 700c less generous clearance Ebisu was.  Wish I could justify more bike$.  Good luck w/ sale!

This bike was before he offered the Tonbo and was basically semi-custom. I told him I wanted Hetre 650b tires, the racks, the wiring channel in the fork etc. and left all other details up to him. Based on my weight he decided on a lugged bottom bracket shell, a fillet brazed head tube, and a seat tube junction that is a combination of lugged and fillet brazed... if I understand corrected that is what bi laminate means. The "mustard" color was chosen because I liked the Watanabe bike he had on display in his shop for a decade or so.

What a glorious bike, Chris! Best of luck finding it a new home. It checks pretty much every box I can imagine.

Best,
Reed

Slightly more tire clearance than mine, and I’ll be in Berkeley tomorrow... hmmm....

Beautiful bike, and that is a killer deal no matter how you look at it. I bet it rides really nice too. I had a 700c Ebisu pass through my quiver for a minute and it was smooth riding. Even with skinny ass 32's.

Thank you for the messages expressing interest. One list member said they would like to buy it, if that doesn't work out I'll update accordingly. Apologies that I didn't reply sooner _ I was out in the evening and then was asleep until recently!

The bike has been sold to a list member on the east coast who had a local friend pick it up. Hopefully he will post some pictures of it built up !!

yess I am fairly certain that means it is coming within a few blocks of me and I will get to sniff the lugs even if I couldn't buy it.

Finally got this together last weekend and it's first shake down ride was D2R2. Boy this is a fun bike and it seems like it really loves to descend, quickly.

The handle bar tape, breaks, and FD (and possibly RD) are going to get switched up at some point. Front lamp and proper bag to come as well.

Looks great! (BTW, I tend to prefer non-aero brake levers, but there’s like 3 people in the world like that now, so...)

Looks great Tommy and I am happy to see it built up and being ridden. It's a challenge to get the dynamo wiring through the internal channel in the left fork blade. Hiroshi mentioned his technique is to use a vacuum cleaner to suck a length of fishing line through it first, that can then be tied to the dynamo wire to pull it through.

I use dental floss; easier and more widely available.
