A long shot, I know.  I need post mount center pulls to clear a 650X38mm and possibly fenders.

Thanks,
Brendan in SF

Mafac Raid brakes show up periodically on eBay.  Typically they are from French vendors in take off condition.  They work for me.

I do.  I may go with Dia-compe 750s and a kit from Cycles Toussaint.

Brendan, be careful, i think the mafac brakes and the dia compe brakes use different size mounting posts.
from what i read-and someone please correct me if I'm wrong!- the mafac/compass/rene herse/gb chouette all use the same size post. i believe but cannot confirm 100% that the mafac raids and racers can both be set up post mounted on the same size posts. the dia-compe/weinmann center pulls use a different, incompatible post size. in true paul style, the paul CP brakes use yet another incompatible post size (i believe it's a standard canti post, just placed above the rim, centerpull style)
I'm also assuming (but really don't know) that U brake posts are the same as dia compe CP posts. I've had a hard time finding much info about U brakes in relation to anything else- they seem to inhabit an alternative bicycle universe that doesn't cross over to this one. a U brake also inhabits my tandem, so one if these days I'll have to get down and actually measure.

Another key challenge is the location of the hole that holds the return spring at the post.
After a close reading of the Cycles Toussaint information they allude to it vaguely with the reference to the "aluminum plate."  That information also indicates that the kit works with either Mafac or Weinmann/ Diacompe, but you should also look at the information one of the Florida builders shared in 2009 on brake spacing.  It still exists in this archive.

The mounting posts for Mafac brakes are 8mm in diameter at the brake and 12 mm at the springs.   The center to center distance is 75 mm as best I can measure on the Raid backing plate.
Rene Herse also sells the posts, but last time I checked what they had in stock  needed to be machined to fit the curvature of the fork blade in the correct location.
My experience is that with the backing plate Raids work pretty well, as in better than any other brake I have used.

Mafac and diacompe/weinmann centerpull brakes all use the samepost which is different than the cantilever one. Paul uses the cantilever post at a different location.
Racers and most weinmann/dia compe62mm)( brakes use a narrower spacing than the raids(75mm).

I recently ordered the spring kit from Toussaint. They have a flat rate US shipping at $30, but I emailed them to ask if a tiny package would be any cheaper and they had me make the order and then refunded $15. You can save a few more pennies if you use a card without a foreign fee, since it's in Canada. Mine shipped from BC in about a week to NH. The only other thing I needed was the M6 nut to attach the brakes to the post since the ones that came with Diacompes are way longer to hold the bridge part.
