These are your options, both of them terrific:

  http://xxcycle.com/confrerie-des-650-special-randonneur,,en.php

Also note that the Pacenti Pari-Moto is a seriously amazing road tire at 38mm wide while only 280g in the black version. There's nothing like it in any other size, absolutely buy it if it will fit in your bike.

Anything smaller than 32mm would rather defeat the purpose of using smaller diameter rims, you might as well use 700c if you want small tires that need to be pumped to high pressures.

Another vote for Pari-Motos, they are amazing.  FYI, mine weigh 264 grams each.

If you are interested, I have a pair of lightly used 650B x 32mm Panaracer Maxy Fasty. These are the non-belted, quicker version of the Nifty Swifty

That assumption holds true for the larger sized bikes, but for bikes in the 52cm and under ball park you could use a 28-32mm 650b and make a bike that is proportionate to the larger bikes, get a better fit and weight distribution for the rider etc.  Having ridden lots of tires, 700c and 650b, I keep going back to a tire in the 35-38mm range and I am 6'3" and 220 lbs.  My smaller customers have generally been very happy with the narrower, 32-38mm, tires as well.  If I were tasked with designing a road "sport" or "race" bike for a rider in the 5'2" and 110lb range a 30mm 650b tire would be a welcome option

I ride a 650B 32mm Grand Bois Cypres, and its much much better than a 700c 23mm tire, so I think its a damn good option for a bike. And my assessment is back to back, on the same bike, with different wheelsets and tires.

Is the Hetre just a big Cypres?  I have Hetres on one bike and I think they're really nice, but all that air volume results in a tire/wheel with the same diameter as a 28 mm 700c.  Not an issue, but one should be aware of what he's getting.  I'm curious about 32s on a 650b.  I might try that on my Trek 610 someday.

No. I believe the casing material is very similar if not identical (Jan can correct me if need be). But there is much more tread on the Hetre and the tread pattern is different.

I share the high opinion of the Cypres. I went from a 700c x 23 Conti GP4000 to a Cypres on my go-fast and the difference is huge.

The casing actually is the same, but the Hetre has a bit more tread and a different pattern. The Cypres 650 and Cypres 700 are basically the same tires, except for the diameter.

A lightly shaved Hetre would approach the tread thickness and pattern of a Cypres...
