Recently I stumbled on these pads, which claim to add 7mm of reach to your brakes.  I haven't seen or used them personally, but thought they might be of interest to folks here who may be doing conversions, or otherwise have brake reach issues.

I am surprised nobody is chiming in on this.  These look to be a pretty nifty little trick.  The price is a bit on the high side, compared to what is often looked at as a consumable part.  I am not really doing any conversions at the moment, but these would probably pair well with a Diacompe 610 or even a Paul racer when you only needed that little bit more and did not want to resort to a DC 710 to get the reach.  I would also be curios to see if these help at all with the 27" to 700c conversion woes on many a vintage touring bike with canti brakes.

If any body out there buys a set and uses them I would love to hear a report back.  I will likely buy a set just to have a reminder in the parts bin.

When I converted my Trek 1200c I had to file the slots in the rear Tektro 556 dual pivot brake to reach down another couple of millimeters. These pads would have made that conversion a little easier. And I certainly could have used the stock pads somewhere else, so that additional cost would have been absorbed.
 
I was wondering if there would be any flex in the holder when the brakes are forcefully applied, but I guess it's probably not significant.

I would think the Promax brakes would be a good solution for the older touring bikes with cantis you mentioned.   They are cheap and have a very wide adjustment range.

These would be perfect for older Motobecane 27" to 650b conversions.

I'm converting from 27" (1972 Raleigh Super Course) to 650B right now, with a set of Rivendell Silvers (AKA Tektro 559). I haven't got the wheels built up yet, but I suspect I'm still a few millimeters short. The  BDops are an expensive option, but they might just be enough.

There would be a lot of torque trying to rotate these brake pads when braking. Most brake pads are secured by 4mm or even 5mm bolts. I don't think the 3mm bolt on these would cut it. If they rotate when you are braking what happens? Over the front wheel I would think.

I would rather take the money and invest in longer reach brakes
