It's been a minute since I've been on this group and I've largely not been riding the past couple of years due to  a knee injury. I'm thinking about getting back into it.

My current ride is one I built up out of a 2013 Soma ES frame with a Whisky fork for better front tire clearance over the original steel fork. For road riding, the frame and fork work brilliantly with Pari-Moto 650b x 1.9 tires. No room for fenders like that, but that's not a problem me.

I've been thinking about building up a new 650b in a similar vein but with disc brakes, and I spotted the new Soma Smoothie HP. On paper at least, the tire clearance looks the same as my old Smoothie ES ("700c x 32 with fenders") but I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried this frame with 650b and if so, what the experience was?

This is kind of tangential, but a while back I stopped bye Velo Oranges showroom and saw the new "Rando" bike. It is set up for 700c and only 700c.  the beautifully shaped chain stays form a "key hole"  for 700c  tire clearance.  Nothing smaller is going to work.   I have no idea about the details of the Smoothie HP, but I would wait for confirmation and or actually inspecting the frame.
