Can VO Diagonale rims be used tubeless or not?

If I'm running a tubeless compatible tyre such as the Babyshoe Pass TC, can these be used tubeless on VO Diagonale rims? The VO website is silent on this aspect of the rims. I'm looking for a reasonably wide rim compatible with rim brakes on which I can run tubeless.

The VO Diagonale was not designed for tubeless. Can you do it anyway? Probably. The BSD is pretty true. But it lacks the special bead hook designed for tubeless and will be less secure and less safe.

I’ve used the A23 and the Belgium Plus for 650B tubeless. Both work well. The A23 is less expensive and is available in silver. The Belgium Plus is wider. Otherwise they seem to perform similarly. Personally I run Babyshoe Passes on the A23 and Switchback Hills on the Belgiums.

There is also the Pacenti Brevet. Folks speak highly of it, and I’m planning to give them a try once they’re proven for a year or two. They’re no wider than the A23 though. For width you’re pack to spending dearly on he Belgiums.

Those are the only options for 650B rim brake tubeless, as far as I’m aware.

It's certainly not much, but technically the Brevet is 1mm or 5.5% wider than the A23 where it counts.

Ah, good point Justin! I was speaking from memory, which was a bit faulty.

I've now looked these three rims up, and here are the internal widths:
Velocity A23: 17.5mm (according to Fairwheel Bikes)
Pacenti Brevet: 19mm (according to Compass)
HED Belgium Plus: 24mm (according to Compass)

Looks like A23s cost around $90, Brevets about $100, and Belgiums about $150.

Or, to put it another way, each 1mm costs yah about $10.

Best,
Reed

Hmm. I don't see how a rim brake rim (even a disc rim) can be 25mm external and 23mm internal which is what the Compass site lists for the rim brake Belgium Plus (24mm is the rim depth). I'm not easily finding the specs, but I would guess the internal width would be right around 21mm.

Edit: Art's Cyclery lists the Belgium Plus as 20.61mm internal.

Another good catch, Justin. I'm planning to replace the valves in my Belgium Plus wheelset with MilKit valves sometime soon, and when I while I have the tires off I'll try to remember to pull out the calipers and measure the internal width myself.

Bringing us back to the original question, I believe the SOMA Weymouth is the same rim as what VO sells as the Diagonale (and also the same as one sold by Velo Routier as the Luxe rim). SOMA lists the internal width of the Weymouth as 19mm: http://www.somafab.com/archives/product/weymouth-rim

So, original poster, if you want a classic looking 19mm internal rim brake rim like the Diagonale but want to run tubeless, it sounds like the Pacenti Brevet is your rim! A third more expensive, a quarter lighter, otherwise quite similar.

Absolutely no way. It's not a TL ready rim and the tire fit is actually quite loose already. I think it's on the loose side even for regular clincher/tube mounting. As others have said use an A23, HED Belgium or Pacenti Brevet. The Pacenti SL23 is a good choice too but they are discontinued.

Got around to measuring the internal width of my Belgium+ rims today. I got between 20.6mm and 20.9mm depending on where around the perimeter I measured. I’d call ‘em just under 21mm to be safe.
