In the interest of additional thinning of the collection, I'm offering for sale a 650B bike built by John Clay of Tallahassee, Florida. I bought this frame and fork from John in Feb. 2020 when he advertised it to this list. Here's what he wrote at the time:
"This frame needs a new home. It's about 11 years old, built for 650b x 32mm Cypres tires, fenders and Suntour Cyclone long reach side pull brakes (though Mafac Racers with bolt-on yokes fit). After a few years I used it as a mule to test some equipment alternatives; I'd be surprised if it has 3000 miles on it.
Dimensions:
- 72.5 HT, 72 ST, 565mm TT, 575 ST, 825mm Stand-over, 440mm Chainstays, 55mm BB Drop/270mm BB height, 63mm Fork Rake, 37mm Trail, 126mm Rear Space (can re-set for 130 easily)
Other Details:
- Wire guides on the inside of the right fork leg for a hub generator and lights
- Taillight boss in the seat tube
- Mid-leg rack bosses
- 9/6/9 True Temper tubing
- Alessandro Rizzato, Serie Corsa (Padua, Italy) Lugs
- LC-17 crown (accommodates braze-on Mafac post placement)
- Brazed front fender boss in the underside of the steerer
- Rinko slotted cable housing guides
- Long Shen investment cast, 68mm BSA standard, BB shell"
I had it powdercoated in "French blue," and built it up as a kind of general purpose rando bike, using it lightly for a few commutes and some 30 to 45-mile day rides. Condition is very good with just a few frame rub marks her and there. It's been sitting unused in my basement for a couple of years now, so time to move it on! Here's my build list:
- Wheels: Velo Orange rims, Miche racing hubs, Grand Bois Cypres 650B x 32mm tires
- Drivetrain: IRD 46/30t crankset, IRB BB, 9-speed Shimano 11-32t cassette, Shimano XTR RD and DuraAce FD, Shimano bar-end 9-speed shifters, Shimano A520 SPD pedals
- Cockpit: Soma Highway 1 bars, weathered Brooks leather bar tape in yellow, Shimano levers, Nitto stem, Stronglight A9 headset, Crane bell.
- Also, Brooks C17 saddle in blue, Campagnolo NR seatpost, Tektro 559 brakes, Velo Orange fenders, rear battery lamp, Electra Ticino cages (knock offs of Nitto).
Price is $350 plus shipping in the CONUS from zip 02446. That's essentially the value of the components, so you're getting the frameset for free!
Glad to answer questions, take more pics, etc.
