Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this frameset?

I like the rim brakes, geo, and price, though am a little concerned that the oversized TT and DT, etc. might make for a stiff or otherwise uninspiring ride?

i have no experience with the frame. but it does mention "touring" in the description which implies a more stable stout bike. to what degree, i have no idea.

i also noticed they have restocked the sun cr-18 rims, polished, in 650b

It is built by a local builder for C&L, one of Montréal's premier shops.   The owner or one of the owners toured extensively to South America earlier in life.   My son has one. They have a range of frames adapted to specific uses.  One feature is the carrying strap bosses which are quite useful for the spiral stairs in the town houses on the plateau, where the C&L main shop is located near LaFontaine Park.  My son lives around the corner so he is my source.  I like the guys who complicated one of my bikes when I was up there for a father son ride into ancestral lands.

Complimented, not complicated.  More coffee necessary.  Dang daylight savings time.

I have a Bassi Hogs Back. Got it for a steep discount from Analog Cycles and built it up as a commuter and tourerer. It's a little wobbly under load but I had it packed with a massive front bag on a rack.

I like it. They have great paint jobs and I had to "settle" on the matte black because it was half off.

Is it really built in Canada? The site just says “designed in Montreal.”

I had one that I built up.  Didn't put a huge amount of miles on it, but it rode quite nicely and went together with no issues. I don't have the weight, but it was surprisingly lighter than I had expected.  Do recall them being manufactured overseas.

Thanks Rob, that's exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

Yes, they are definitely made in Taiwan, and shop doesn't represent them as anything else.

Overall were you happy with it? Any reason you didn't ride it much?

Yes really happy with the look/aesthetics and thought it was an overall nice build.  I have a bad habit of building bikes, not riding much, then moving them to start the next build project ;-).  I actually have gone back a few times seeing if I could find another one, but specifically in that faded paint scheme.  I don't think you can go wrong with one.  Especially at the price point vs. other canti steel bikes.  Great appreciation for the level TT too! Brother Cycles in the UK is closing out their Mr. Wooden frames which seem to be a good value too, even factoring in shipping.

Thanks, very helpful!

Yes, I've had my eye on the Mr. Wooden as well. The level top tube and quill stem on the Bassi put it a little ahead, but its been a tough call.

If the Mr. Wooden used a 1" threaded headset it would probably have won...

I don't own a Le Montreal. I nearly bought one - to me it's the updated cross check I always wanted. A bit more "classically" designed and versatile. My friend who works occasionally at C&L talked me into a custom instead though so I didn't purchase. It seems like an exceedingly capable neo-classic bike. I probably know 6-7 people with bassi's and they adore them.
