Hello everyone,

I am currently working on creating a 5G scenario based on Release 15, specifically applying option 3. To achieve this, I require the following components:

1. EndB (eNodeB) as the Master node.
2. gndB (gNodeB) as a Secondary node.
3. LTE core (EPC core).

After reviewing the examples provided by the nr module, I have noticed that there is no deployment of EndB in any of the scenarios. Only gndB and the EPC core are included.

My question is, does the nr module support this option? If it does, I would appreciate guidance on how to apply this option. If there are any examples available for this specific option, please let me know.

Thank you.

This looks like a Dual Connectivity task you have. From a 2021 group post (https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/5g-lena-users/ba7d7423-f221-4291-a365-3b694a3586b0n%40googlegroups.com?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer) this was not supported. To the best of my knowledge, it is still not supported. I am not sure if the developers and maintainers of 5G Lena are working on this.

Hi,

You can configure nodes as eNBs (lte configuration), but Dual Connectivity is not supported yet.
I mean you can have both configurations (LTE eNBs/NR gNBs) in your network, but you cannot perform handovers, etc.
For this you would need the to work on the RRC branch we have. If you are willing to do it, you can consider contributing.

Hello, Katerina

My name is Sérgio, and I am a doctoral student at the State University of Ceará, Brazil.

I have been following your work on the development of 5G LENA and would like to congratulate you on it. I noticed that in the 5G LENA discussion group, a topic related to handover came up. I would like to know if there is already a finalized handover module available for use, and if not, I would like to contribute to the development of this feature. How can I contribute?

With regards,

Hi Sérgio,

Handover is still not supported. The majority of required changes are about to get merged in https://gitlab.com/cttc-lena/nr/-/merge_requests/162.
But RRC real and RA still need some fixes. If you want to work on that, that is a good place to start.
Replace `/*false,*/` with `false,` in https://gitlab.com/cttc-lena/nr/-/merge_requests/162/diffs#665683f3185051163fd041d72a61e10454379d0b_0_799,
then try to run `./test.py -s nr-rrc`.
