CALL FOR PAPERS
The First International Workshop on Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN) in conjunction with IEEE WCNC 2025, Milan, Italy
https://wcnc2025.ieee-wcnc.org/workshop/ws05-workshop-open-radio-access-networks-open-ran
We are pleased to announce the call for papers for the upcoming Open RAN Workshop, a forum dedicated to discussing the technical, architectural, and algorithmic advancements that are driving the transformation of Radio Access Networks (RAN). The workshop will explore the latest developments in Open RAN, addressing the technical challenges, innovative solutions, and the business and policy barriers that need to be overcome for its widespread adoption.
The Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) concept is a major paradigm shift from proprietary, vendor-specific RAN solutions to open, disaggregated, and programmable network architectures. This transformation is crucial for enabling the next generation of wireless networks, such as 5G-Advanced and 6G, by leveraging open interfaces that allow interoperability among diverse RAN components from multiple vendors. However, this shift also brings new challenges, particularly as it disrupts the established norms of single-vendor RAN architectures.
We invite researchers and industry experts to submit their original research contributions that address the technical, architectural, and operational challenges of Open RAN. We also welcome papers that explore the business, regulatory, and policy aspects influencing the adoption and deployment of Open RAN technologies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Telco Digital Twins and Open RAN
• Security of Open RAN Open Interfaces
• Simulators and testbeds for Open RAN
• Energy-Efficient Protocols for Open RAN
• Private Cellular Networks Using Open RAN
• Open RAN Closed-Loop control Optimization
• AI-Driven Resource Management in Open RAN
• Security and Privacy in Open RAN Deployments
• Multi-Agent Learning for Open RAN Optimization
• RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) design approaches
• Machine Learning-Based Beamforming in Open RAN
• Policy-Based Management and Control in Open RAN
• Development, Testing, and Evaluation of rApps, xApps
• xApp/rApp Conflict prediction, detection, and mitigation
• Insights from Large-Scale Open RAN Testbeds and Trials
• Optimizing QoS in Heterogeneous Open RAN Deployments
• Open RAN Interoperability and Cross-Vendor Compatibility
• Network Automation and Orchestration in Open RAN Systems
• Open RAN Deployment Architectures (Edge/cloud Computing)
• Dynamic Open RAN Slicing and Resource Allocation Strategies
• Open RAN Policy-Based Management and Control Mechanisms
• Scalability and Reliability of Open RAN in Urban and Rural Deployments
Accepted and presented papers will be included in the IEEE WCNC 2025 Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore.
