The next number theory seminar will be THURSDAY, Oct 11 at 10:30am in
Padelford Hall.
SPEAKER: Ben Lundell (Univ. of Washington)
ABSTRACT:
In the third and final installment of this talk, I will start with a
brief introduction to deformations of Galois representations. From
there, I'll discuss Selmer groups and show how to relate them the
congruence ideals that appear in the Pollack-Weston formula. Finally,
I will show how to use some results of Khare-Ramakrishna and Greenberg
to prove the Pollack-Weston formula without assuming modularity.
