In case you're curious, we will be talking about adeles and ideles in
Math 581b starting tomorrow.
If you want to get a jump start, maybe read something about them or
even some background about p-adic numbers or something.

My plan is to skip most proofs, cover the following:
(1) define adeles (mon)
(2) define ideles and explain the connection with class groups (wed)
(3) state the main theorem of class field theory in terms of ideles
(next week)
(4) give an equivalent definition of the space S_k(Gamma_1(N)) of
cusp forms in terms of adeles (next week+); "automorphic forms"
