I wanted to point out that the trash situation for the new condo on Madison street is greeting out of hand. They do not use the city’s  trash collection services and the trash is constantly overflowing, which is clearly not helping our Rat issue. Here are some pics of the current situation. It was like this the other week too. Is there anyone we can talk to about this issue as it also not sanitary....

Hi Alfredo,

During our walk yesterday, with DC Official's DOH with Rodent Control did take images and stated the will notified the Property Owner of the violation.

I have also reached out to them in regards. We are in hopes they fix the issue this week. If you guys can assist with monitoring if this continues to occur, please notify me so I may reach out to them.

On another note, Rodent Control will be back out in 2 weeks to inspect that areas bated on our block. Make note of the date, Wednesday, June 30th, 2021.

Also, I like to organize a Alley cleanup day, including a dumpster for a Saturday followed by a Alley Family Fun Day on a Sunday. We would close the alley for a few hours to install a moon bounce for the Children to play along with a Pot Luck Lunch.

What are your thoughts?

My wife and I have noticed more rats back in the area since the trash overflow issue at 1229 Madison and also the stuff that is being dumped at the empty lot at 5702 Georgia. We must continue to let the owners of those properties know that this is not acceptable and also let the city know, so there can fines, if not fixed! We will continue to monitor both.

Yes, Inspector Matthew did note that property as well. He stated he had previously gave them a citation and that he will issue another as he also did not see rodent bate stations as he is suppose to have on the property.

Followed by Pot Luck Family Sunday Fun, June 27, 2021. We can agree on the time on Saturday. I will request the alley block from DDOT. 

Idea would be to clean up the bushes and debris from the fence and treat area with weed killer.  I have a few power washers we may use to clean up along with some trimers. 

If some may contribute with 1 gal of gasoline each for the tools and any garden tools, brooms, dust pans we may need. That would be great! 

I have plenty of adult gloves, we will need to get some for the kiddos and bug spray. 

I will request from DDOT a dumpster, bags n hand tools.

Let me know if we come up with something else.

Hi Alfredo,

I reached out to the property manager regarding the collection containers.  I have requested for them to increase their trash collection days as this should alleviate their issue.  There more frequent trash is collected the less it should be an issue.  We are in hopes they will increase it, if not then we will be forced to call the Dept. of Heath to come by and issue a Notice of Violation of which it will eventually be tagged with a fine.  

Currently, the following properties are on our radar with similar issues.

• 5808 Georgia Ave. (Req. to Secure Vacant Properties and Trash Removal) 
• 1311 Madison St. (Req. for Collection Increase)
• 5601 13th St. (Containers to have proper Lids)
• 1229 Madison St. (Req. for Collection Increase)

Please if you guys may assist me with keeping an eye on properties that may cause issues like these, please let me know so we may address the issue.

Just wanted to circle back with you guys on this.  I have been speaking with the building property managers and all stated they were having issues with the Trash Collection Company as their schedules were interrupted due to a merger with two collection companies.  We are in hopes this issue gets corrected throughout these properties as I have made drive by and it seems cleared.  Please continue to keep an eye out in the event you see the trash containers overflow again. Thank you all for coming out Saturday, morning to clean out our alley and for those who stepped outside their homes to clean up the street sidewalks and your alley.

As we started off at the alley on 13th behind Madison St. As we cleared some vines from the bushes, we began to clean the area where the broken detached fence was and later, we decided to put a little muscle to it and removed the 3' chain link fence and we also donated it to the Construction guys who happened to be clearing the vacant yard from all the piles of dirt.

Yes, I did speak with two different guys who seem to share the yard to house their materials, equipment, and construction debris.  I requested them to place bate stations for the rats and to clear some of the branches and bushes along the alley. As well as installing a privacy fence so their site would not be exposed like it is now. 

The gentlemen were kind and assisted us with their bobcat on clearing the dirt and placed the fence post back in place for us.  Saved us so much time and muscle.  Now, if you drive by you will notice the alley looks a bit wider and much cleaner than 9am Saturday, 6/26.  We have a new fence in place and will work towards adding some more chain link to make up for the missing part.  There was also gravel laid along the two properties in the back of that lot of which this would prevent rodents from housing as the gravel is set.  (See images attached)

I hope to you see you later today, Sunday at 2:00pm for an Alley Social.  We will meet in the alley behind 5749 13th Street NW.  Please call or text me if you cannot locate us 202-492-5051.  Alley will be closed with Construction Cones that may be movable if needed to get by. 

Please join us and remember this is a Alley Social and you are welcomed to bring drinks and food if you like.  No worries, if you don't cook the kitchen is not my best friend either but, please come out and join us so we may meet one another and chat on the next steps our block should take.

I will have a small moon bounce for the kids to play and if you may have any other games, please bring them out as well.  They may also ride their scooters and/or bikes.

We may plan to be out in the alley from 2:00pm -4:00pm.  Hope to see out back!

Hi neighbors due to no attendance we will go ahead and reschedule the Alley social.  

I think it would be best for a late evening after 6 PM so we can stay in the shade and away from the sun. Please me know what next weekend or the weekend after that looks for you guys and what is the best time that would work for all.
