Check out the new posting on the West Point Class of 1955 Home Page https://www.west-point.org/class/usma1955/; a link to the Memorial Fund spreadsheet has been added. The Fund was started in 2001 by donations from ‘55 classmates and wives and was established to provide memorials for our departed classmates. The memorial gifts can take one of two forms; flowers for a memorial service or a donation to a non profit selected by a family member. The budget for each memorial is $200. This fund is administered by the Class Treasurer from funds held by WP-AOG for the Class of 1955. Up until about five years ago, nonprofit donations were usual to memorialize a classmate’s death. Since then, those donations have become fairly uncommon. When no request is made, a $200 donation in memory of each departed classmate is made to The Superintendent’s Annual Fund to support activities at West Point.
Since
it seems likely that the drop off of specified donations is due to
the lack of knowledge about the Fund, please plan now on how you’d
like that $200 donation to be used. While
you’re on the Home Page, also update your personal page found under
the Classmates button.
The
Memory
Fund
link
was added to the Home Page due
to concerns about what would happen if the Class Treasurer suddenly
became incapacitated. In the past, the MF spreadsheet existed only
on a hard drive belonging to the treasurer; if
he were
to be
unexpectedly unavailable, the
Fund data could be lost and no one would be available to fulfill
Memorial requests.
This
is
a request for a volunteer(s) to act as a backup treasurer to replace
me if I became
incapacitated; I’ll provide all the information needed for a
volunteer
to assume
the treasurer’s role in
that event.
