Hi, I'm a prospective renter for one of the "M" line apartments but,
based in part on the comments on this discussion group, I have some
serious concerns, and would appreciate any further input you all may
have:

(1) Allegations of Break-Ins from Mgmt Co (elb's msgs from Aug. 2008
and Jan. 2009). Has there been any follow-up on this?

(2) Noise Affecting "A" thru "E" Line Apts (several msgs). Is there
any suggestion that this also affects the "M" line? What has been the
response from the management company on this?

(3) Allegations of Arrest of Bldg Manager (rubyred's msg fwding
Brownstoner comment). What happened here? Was this situation
resolved?

(4) Relationship w/ Super and Mgmt Co. Generally. What is your
relationship like with the building superintendent and the management
company? Would you rent from a J&O-managed building again? Why or
why not?

(5) Rumors of Condo Conversion. There appear to have been rumors of a
building conversion as recently as last summer. Have there been any
further developments?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Hi,

(2) noise - won't affect you in 'M'

(3) know nothing about this.  The story sounds to me like b.s.  Building managers works from a Madison Avenue office, so how could passersby in Brooklyn Heights know anything of this manager's arrest?   Perhaps police records show something: the name of the manager at the time the story surfaced was Merly Moreira.

(4) super - he's really nice.  But remember, he's an employee.  He's not management.  Re: management, I'll refer you back to threads on the discussion board.  I would not rent from J&O again.

(5) condo conversion.  Events don't support these rumors.  a) no rent-stabilized renters have been asked to leave  b) management denies it c) I'm with a commenter on the Brownstoner post: refurbishing these units to the point where they can be marketed may be impossible, nor would it be cost-effective.

I don't know about (1).  Posts to this board circulate only to those who have signed up to receive them, so I hope you get an answer!  (Others may check the board but perhaps infrequently.  Also, new tenants may not yet know about this board.)

Good luck.
