Hi 511 developer resource team,

I would like to request an API Key with increased rate limits for my real-time bus arrival/departure app that I am looking to build and publish on the iOS app store. This will be a free app that San Francisco Bay Area commuters can use on their mobile devices, along with live updates of the bus locations on a map.

The 60 requests per 3600 seconds limit is too limiting for the type of project that I'm attempting to develop for the potential user base size. May I obtain an API Key with less restrictions on the rate limit?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back!

This is a common mistake seen on this mailing list.  511 is not intended to be the backend for your app.  They just don't have the resources to handle that number of requests.  You need to build your own backend that can pull and cache data from 511.  The realtime data doesn't update more frequently than once a minute anyway, so generally the limits are fine for most people, since you can pull the whole region data in one call.  Limits can be increased a bit to allow for some flexibility and testing, etc, but not to the point where you could use 511 as backend directly.
