Hope at this juncture most of you have made it to at least one of the many regattas or training sessions on the schedule. If not, there’s still time and I’d argue the best events of the season are still to come. First and foremost will be NAs hosted by West River SC. See schedule below:
We also will be having ECCs and PCCs, not to mention numerous regional regattas. Please see American Section website for the calendar
As far as other regattas Alamitos Bay YC in Long Beach will be hosting the 2027 Worlds 9/23-10/2, 2027. This will include 2027 NAs on the first weekend. More to come on this. There is a “pre worlds” at ABYC October 2-4 this year if people are interested to sail the location where Worlds will be held. THere will likely be a training week leading up to this weekend. This is rescheduled from what's listed on the American Section Website that was supposed to be September 25-27.
Regarding NAs, we are trying to get back to our constitutionally described selection of NAs two years in advance. We are actively soliciting proposals from clubs wishing to host. These will be presented and voted on at 2026 NAs. Please submit to me at least two weeks before the AGM which will be during the week of NAs.
In the near future plan to see an email ballot to vote on changes to the American Section Constitution regarding voting, proxies, tie breaking, membership. Things were not as smooth as could have been last year at the AGM and we’ve attempted to address some deficiencies and in general update the Constitution to reflect the current state of the Class.
Regarding National Officers, my position as President is up after two years. I am happy to continue on for another two years, if you’ll have me. If anyone else would like to run, please let the National Officers know. Blaine Pedlow’s position as VP will expire in 2027. Miles Johannessen's term as Treasurer is up, but has indicated he'll continue if re-elected. Information Officer Andrea Ciccardi's term expires in 2027. Measurement Officer Eric Anderson will continue. Chris Pittack as Secretary will be stepping down as his term expires. So there will be an open election for Secretary. The President and Treasurer terms are up but we will continue if voted in. We are currently looking for a Region 2 Representative if someone is interested.
Now onto fundraising. I’ve shared this previously regarding our media effort with Lexi Pline. We think this has been a good use of finances to promote the Class and recruit new sailors. However we need support to continue this. Numerous people have contributed and we thank you. We have a ways to go still, and we’re happy for any donations you feel comfortable making. If you would like to discuss please reach out to me or any of the National Officers.
On the topic of support, we recognize one of the biggest barriers to participation and travel is financial. We have an open grant of $1000 from an anonymous donor for a team under 30 years old or an individual committed to the class under 35 years old to attend a non-US based World Championship. This needs to be applied for and selected by the donor. Please send inquiries to me at this email.
Reach out with any questions. Hope to see you at a regatta soon.
