Telescoping Tiller Extension

Does anyone have a telescopic tiller extension they are happy with? If so please share. Thanks

Take a carbon Ronstan, and shorten it to the right length.  They won't take a permanent bend and lock up.  Mine is probably 15 years old now.

I have been happy using both the Ronstan carbon telescoping tiller extensions and the Holt (or was it Allen)  carbon telescoping tiller extensions.  Both were available in several lengths, and both had a length that was slightly longer than what I wanted, and I would cut it down to the length I wanted. I still have one or two, but the off center cam locking system is worn, and they won't lock properly any more.

Unfortunately it appears that neither Ronstan nor Allen are making the carbon telescoping tiller extensions available now.  I do see P&B shows a Holt telescoping tiller extension "HOLT Telescopic Carbon Lighting Stick 800-1300mm" which I am guessing is a little short if you want to enable the crew driving from the wire.

I made a carbon telescoping extension after consulting with Craig Thompson.

It works, and was a fun project, but was a lot of work to make a working twist cam lock.

I'm happy to share my experience if anyone wants to spend more money to save a couple ounces over the aluminum.

Isn’t it part of Trump’s plans to have a tiller extension manufacturing plant up and operational right next to the other plants opening in a couple weeks?

Sounds like both Aaron and Craig have the experience to get supervisor roles at least!

Aaron,

That would be very interesting.  I have two telescoping tiller extensions that I can put back into service if I can rebuild the twist cam locks.  And sourcing carbon tube is easy as well.

Do you think the twist locks for ski poles are strong enough? Those are easy to come by.

Thanks all. I had 3 of the Holt ones and they were absolute POSs. Happy you had good luck with them. Expensive and the lockout failed after no time and couldn’t get a replacement lock mechanism.  Made them Opti extensions for my kids. I’ll look at the Ronstan one. Appreciate the info.
