All,
I get regular emails from people seeking used boat buying advice. The common theme I share is to buy the best used boat that is available; which represents the most value for your money. I personally wish I didn't learn this lesson the hard way over the years. I have spent more time and money than I care to admit fixing up older 505's that may/may not have been worth it. The time and cost of materials quickly add up and before you know it you've spent more than just buying the nicer boat to begin with. Spend your time sailing instead!
To this point, there are currently three 505's available for sale on the west coast that are in the optimal value category from my perspective:
9202 - Mike Holt Rigged Ovington V1 (details in email below)
Note: I have no affiliation with any of these boats, if interested please contact the seller directly. We have space in the trailer coming back from the Worlds so this is a great opportunity to grab one of these deals on the east coast. For budget purposes, transport cost from West to East will be approximately $1500 which is a good deal as well. Myself and the other east coast attendees can assist with loading if you/seller can arrange for the boat to be delivered to St. Francis YC at some point prior to the end of the Worlds regatta.
A new boat is over $40,000 (without sails or trailer) so these boats are all well below half price of that option. Great value.
