Aside from confirming the pretty obvious "fixture" regattas, we decided to launch Summer Thursday Night Sailing in Newport from Mid June to September. These will be informal training, tuning and racing sessions with coordination by VHF. They will also serve as a demo opportunity for those interested in the class, something we sorely need. As opportunity presents itself, the racing could get a bit more formalized, but it's time in the boat at a great venue that is the primary driver. Why Thursday you might ask? Well the other days of the week (except Friday) are taken by sport boats, PHRF or Shields. Thursdays are less busy in the harbor.So.. here is how the East Coast schedule is shaping up. If you have edits or additions, please respond to this posting!2026 East Coast Schedule (As of 11/2025)
March 6-8 Midwinters, Clearwater Community Sailing Center, FL
May 16-17 West River Spring Regatta, MD
June 6-7 Wickford Regatta, Wickford, RI
June 18 Begin Thursday Evening Sailing in Newport (and occasional Weekends)
June 27-28 Training/Demo Weekend Newport
July 11-12 New England (R1) Championship, Sail Newport Regatta, Newport, RI
July 31-August 2 East Coast Championships, KYC, Kingston, Ontario
Sept 24 End Thursday Evening Sailing in Newport
September 26-27 Canadian Nationals, CORK, Kingston Ontario Tentative
October 10-18 North American Championship, West River, MD
Some things to notice:
- We have NAs at West River with a stated 50 boat objective!
- ECCs will be mid summer in Kingston! I cannot think of a more perfect venue for that event.
- We have two fantastic regattas in New England at Wickford and Sail Newport!
- We have a chance to do fleet sailing in Newport for the first time in several years! I think that is 12 Thursdays and potentially a weekend thrown in.
Ted reported that the storage fee for Sail Newport was last $340, so it is a pretty easy place to leave a boat. I plan to leave mine there and commute from NH/MA!Best,DuanePS Everyone send positive vibes to Macy!--
