Schedule Planning Call - Monday Feb. 8 at 7:30

Hello All,
Please plan to attend a schedule planning meeting on Monday Feb 8 at 7:30.  With the main fixtures of the schedule determined, we need to consider filling in the blanks with local regattas, practice, coached training or other events.  Se the attached XLSX spreadsheet for the schedule as it stands.  A few things to consider:
  • We have a big gap mid summer to consider.
  • There is money available to have a paid coaching event.
  • We have people interested in the class and need to invest in getting them out for a ride or a regatta so they get interested enough to really join the class.
Amie will post Zoom meeting information in the coming days for this call.  Amie will also provide a brief update on NAs planning.

PLEASE plan to attend so that we can tailor the schedule to the best consensus!

All,
Schedule updated after tonight's call and attached.  Main change is addition of coaching and Sakonnet events in June.  Stand by for more on NAs following some discussion about logistics and Sail Newport availability.

If anyone has ideas or points of contact for coaching I'm all ears.

The good news is that the best 505 coach around is going to be back into sailing 505s this year.

We should get Zagol to coach us. He's been plenty far up there in high level events and knows how to coach. He's in Mystic, CT.

Nick's great and a great coach, but he hasn't got any significant 505 experience. Mark is a great coach who's won 505 NAs and been top 10 at least 3 other times, and Mystic is pretty local.

 Ted will reach out and see everyone’s availability. I like that Peter/Zani would be practicing with us. Honestly, a good double-handed sailor (doesn’t have to be a 505 sailor) for a coach is ideal and get the 505 talent out on boats practicing with us. We learn best sailing together! 🙌🏼

Hi all,

For those who don't know me, I'm currently a senior on the Yale sailing team and joining the Region 1 505 fleet this summer after I graduate.

I wanted to suggest Zack Leonard (the Yale coach) as a possibility for the clinic if none of the other options pan out. He sailed 505s at a high level in the 90s and coached me and my skipper before sailing 505 North Americans last year.
